Food is a vital part of survival. Whilst it is essential, food isn't a single item. Food can be acquired from various different sources such as insects, plants, animals, etc.

Mechanics[edit | edit source]

There are two different types of negative status effect that Eat ico.png eating and Drink ico.png drinking food can prevent: Hunger ico.png Hunger and Thirst ico.png Thirst.

Keep in mind that some foods count as both food and water. While not reducing thirst as much, this might be enough to help you until you can get to a water source to completely quench your thirst.

Some items require you to alter them before they can be consumed as food. For example - you have to open a coconut before you can drink from it.

Some items are rendered more potent by modifying them by Grind ico 128.png grinding, Hit ico 128.png hitting, opening, piercing, etc.

Meat, eggs, and mushrooms will initially cause the Non-Omnivore minor ico.png Non-Omnivore major ico.png Non-Omnivore negative status effect. Non-omnivore can only be overcome by learning Omnivore neurons. Until you are able to digest the food correctly, the food will act as a negative status effect.

By learning omnivore neurons to adapt your body, these food groups will give positive effects besides reducing hunger.

  • Eggs - Improves your Dopamine capacity.
  • Mammal - Improves your overall vitality.
  • Mushrooms - Improve your resistance against injuries and poisonings.
  • Oviparous - Improves your Neuronal Energy capacity.

Be aware that not all food is safe to eat or drink. Food Poisoning minor ico.png Food Poisoning major ico.png Food Poisoning happens when you consume unripe, rotten, and/or unsafe foods. You can avoid food poisoning by inspecting the quality of a food source in your hands. If the food is unripe, rotten, and/or unsafe leading to sickness for your hominid, they will react with disgust. If the food source happens to be indeed dangerous, the bite or slurp that will sicken the hominid will be random.

Not all foods will become rotten, at least at first. Many foods can be stored in stockpiles almost indefinitely without spoiling. However, some foods that require alteration to become edible can go rotten. Inspect food from stockpiles before eating to ensure that the food is safe to eat.

Learning specific neurons reduces the negative effects of food and increase the positive benefits of food.
