decision making[]

During the last 30 days, Wikia Inc. recorded approximately 193,000 page views from people looking for information and answers about Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey. Meeting readers’ expectations requires many elements such as well-written entries, thoughtful presentation with good visuals, expertise from Web coders, and —most importantly—a critical mass of readers and editors from all around the world. Are we currently doing everything we can to meet readers’ and editors’ expectations? I think we don’t, precisely because we’re spread across two (2) wikis. Indeed, we need to choose once and for all which wiki we’ll keep and which one we’ll lock in read-only mode. Keeping two (2) wikis means duplication of efforts, dilution of talents and decreased “findability” on Google and other search engines. That’s why we need to make decisions about the future of our community, especially because the interest around the game will multiply once the game releases on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in December, and on Steam eventually.

Sure, I am happy to answer this.

  • what work you’re planning to do as a wiki editor;
I like words, language, and a good Wiki or forum board , and as english is only my "second mother language" I use this as a means of keeping it fluent. ( Please excuse any typoes and just correct me, I actually appreciate that.) I lack the more sophisticated video or photo editing skills and I simply have neither the motivation or time to catch up on the jounger folks ( Lets just say even though my first PC was a C64 I was always more of a gamer and user than a coder ). So working on a a Wiki like this one is fun, and a relaxing passtime. I plan on remaining on an active Wiki as an Editor after rediscovering the fun. As I have put some sweat into the Wiki on Gamepedia I would prefer to keep it, but : I can always merge or redo my work. Actually, I plan to expand and will continue to work on Wikis and Forum boards - as soon as I have found one that catches my imagination.
  • the average frequency and amount of work you think you will do on the wiki*;
Hard to say. I will slow down a bit at the moment. I suppose I will continue to invest at least 1-2 hours a week, though. Keeping a Wiki alive is like tending to a Bonsai... and if it flourishes its someting to be proud about.
  • your preference for the Fandom’s wiki or the Gamepedia’s wiki;
as stated in the first paragraph : I would prefer to keep going at the site I restarted working as an Editor, but it is not hard to redo or recreate the work on a different site. I dont feel strongly about the point, prefering a path of least resistance.
  • your level of agreement with closing one wiki to keep a single one.
HIGH. The arguments are valid, searchability and activity is the major lifeline of any forum board or Wiki.
